Founded in 1977, Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) includes over 1500 members in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, and is the only professional organization in North America devoted exclusively to the concerns of art information specialists. The Ontario Chapter addresses these concerns on a local level, and welcomes archivists, librarians, visual resource curators, museum and gallery professionals, artists and designers, and those working in the areas of dance, theatre and film.
ARLIS/NA Ontario meets twice a year in a variety of locations. These day-long meetings are organized around professional workshops, special lectures, or informative tours, and provide a venue for exchanging information, discussing new technologies, and forming useful professional contacts. From time to time, the Chapter also comes together with other Canadian ARLIS chapters at ARLIS Canada meetings.
Our ongoing goal is to work together to produce helpful art information tools that will assist art information specialists to serve their clients and the public, and to widen public and professional awareness of the art information resources available in Ontario.
