Introducing Two New ARLIS/NA Chapter Officers:
Nancy Perrin, 2014 ARLIS/NA Ontario Vice-Chair/ Chair-Elect*
I am a current MLIS candidate at the University of Western Ontario. I have held a co-op position of Metadata Analysis with Agriculture and Agri-food Canada during the course of my studies. Prior to pursuing my Masters, I obtained a certificate in Set & Costume Design from the National Theatre School of Canada and a B.F.A. in Theatre Production and Design from the University of Victoria. I continue to have an active artistic practice in balance with pursuing a career in the information sector.
I am currently playing an active role in creating a university recognized student group to represent ARLIS on the Western campus. We have established a working relationship with Western’s McIntosh Gallery, to which our group is in the planning phase to catalogue the galleries monograph holdings. I am also active in Western’s Special Libraries Association as their Tour/Events Co-ordinator, which included organizing a large field trip to Toronto to tour the TIFF Library and Archives and the CBC Libraries.
I may be a newer member of ARLIS/NA Ontario having only joined earlier in 2013, but I have strong desire to spread the great work of this professional organization. ARLIS/NA helps fill a real need for both those currently and those who wish to pursue a role within the art information sector. It is an area that is underrepresented in other professional organizations and educational institutions. For example, currently at Western there is no arts librarianship related course content beyond general and special librarianship so I rely on this organization to help fill this need. As vice chair, I will relish the opportunity to represent art librarianship beyond the GTA.
Joanne Wadden, 2014-2015 ARLIS/NA Ontario Secretary**
Joanne graduated with an MA in Sociology from York University in 2010. After graduation, she worked as a research analyst for the University Health Network and as an external campus events coordinator at the University of Toronto. She has a passion for the visual arts and is committed to lifelong learning. She studied Material Art and Design at the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCADU) and Ceramics at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design (ECIAD). While she was a student at OCADU, she worked at the AGO as a coordinator of major donor events. She was a volunteer at the Gardiner Museum (of ceramic art) for a number of years. Joanne was the recipient of an Ontario Graduate Scholarship for the 2013-2014 school year and has been enjoying being a student once again in the MLIS program at the University of Toronto.
